Transactional Analysis

What Might Change?

What is it?

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a form of psychotherapy rooted in equality, accessibility and our capacity for growth and change. It provides a framework for understanding what you bring to therapy, while allowing me to adapt how I work to you and your individual needs.

Through TA, I explore how earlier experiences and relationships can shape patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving and relating that continue into adult life. A somatic TA lens also helps us notice how these patterns are experienced in the body in the here and now, giving us different ways to understand and work with them.

At its heart, TA is about understanding ourselves more fully, developing greater awareness and choice, and changing old patterns that may limit how we live and relate to ourselves and others.

What Might Change?

Psychotherapy isn't necessarily about becoming a different person or making difficult feelings disappear. You might develop greater self-awareness, recognise patterns sooner and understand why certain situations affect you strongly. We aren't trying to stop normal emotional or bodily responses, but to increase your capacity to experience them without becoming as overwhelmed.

Change might mean greater resilience, clearer boundaries, increased self-acceptance and more choice in how you respond to yourself and others. Ways of protecting yourself that were once necessary may become less rigid or intense as other possibilities develop. The aim isn't a life without difficulty, but a greater capacity to meet what happens, recover and move forward.

These are only some possibilities — what emerges through therapy will be different and particular to you.

Client Words

"I nursed my terminally ill partner of 32 years under unimaginable stress combining that with coping with the Covid pandemic and three teenage children. Mark faithfully spent the necessary time listening to me as my life turned upside down. He has also faithfully spent the necessary time listening to me as I’ve rebuilt myself and my life, slowly but very surely. Mark is highly professional yet empathetic, unassuming and supportive. He has an impressive attention to detail, is punctual, and is a superb communicator. He is a very good listener. Mark rarely gives solutions but always talks strategies."
